چکیده

This paper explores patient-centered design (PCD) as a methodology for personalization of software used in rehabilitation of cognitive disabilities. This methodology serves scenarios where clinical priorities, expertise, and services can be factored into socio-technical software design decisions and clinicians explicitly included in the process. The clinical context anticipates the patient’s progress toward at least partial recovery and justifies clinical services. PCD builds on and integrates user-centered design (UCD) and participatory design (PD). Case studies come from work in traumatic brain injury rehabilita-

Comparison of Different Linear Filter Design Methods for Handling Ocular Artifacts in Brain Computer Interface System

Brain-computer interfaces (BCI) record brain signals, analyze and translate them into control commands which are relayed to output devices that carry out desired actions. These systems do not use normal neuromuscular output pathways. Actually, the principal goal of BCI systems is to provide better life style for physically-challenged people which are suffered from cerebral palsy, amyotrophic l...

Back to the Bedside: Developing a Bedside Aid for Concussion and Brain Injury Decisions in the Emergency Department

CONTEXT Current information-rich electronic health record (EHR) interfaces require large, high-resolution screens running on desktop computers. This interface compromises the provider's already limited time at the bedside by physically separating the patient from the doctor. The case study presented here describes a patient-centered clinical decision support (CDS) design process that aims to br...

Initial constructs for patient-centered outcome measures to evaluate brain-computer interfaces.

PURPOSE The authors describe preliminary work toward the creation of patient-centered outcome (PCO) measures to evaluate brain-computer interface (BCI) as an assistive technology (AT) for individuals with severe speech and physical impairments (SSPI). METHOD In Phase 1, 591 items from 15 existing measures were mapped to the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (I...

Personalization, interaction, and navigation in rich multimedia documents for print-disabled users

H. L. Petrie G. Weber W. Fisher Multimedia documents, such as textbooks, reference materials, and leisure materials, inherently use techniques that also can help make them accessible for people with disabilities who find it difficult or impossible to use printed materials. This includes individuals who are blind, partially sighted, deaf, hard of hearing, or dyslexic. The varying requirements of...

TBI-QOL: Development and Calibration of Item Banks to Measure Patient Reported Outcomes Following Traumatic Brain Injury

OBJECTIVE To use a patient-centered approach or participatory action research design combined with advanced psychometrics to develop a comprehensive patient-reported outcomes (PRO) measurement system specifically for individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI). This TBI Quality-of-Life (TBI-QOL) measurement system expands the work of other large PRO measurement initiatives, that is, the Patie...
